Drawing Studio by Wiesław Zaremba
Sabanci University was establish by the Haci Ömer Foundation (VAKSA) in July 1994. The University began its first academic year on October 1999. Key philosophy of Sabanci University is: "creating and developing together." Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design (VACD)
We live in a world where the role of the artist/designer is being redefined. Todays' artists and designers need to be equipped with knowledge and vision which goes far beyond the traditionally required skills of draughtsmanship. The individuals' need to be conversant with the social, scientific and technological evolution that surrounds him or her, and the ability to incorporate this evolution into the creative process brings the issue of a visual education that has a wider based spectrum than before. The interdisciplinary educational approach that is embraced by the Sabanci University leads us to believe that this establishment will provide an ideal breeding ground for the education of the 'new' artist and designer. Students interested in program are required to take courses related to the learning of thinking visually: Visual language and Language of drawing.<http://www.sabanciuniv.edu/>Wiesław Zaremba. Students from the Univeristy Sabanci Istambul"s Drawing Studio will realize a drawing on a 2,5 x 20 meters canvas with the participation of a professional dancer who will combine classic ballet and modern dance. The process of drawing will be conducted both by the students and the dancer. The students may ask the dancer to stand/perform in a ceartin fashion while the opposite may also take place, the dancer may change her position on her own according to the way the drawing is progressing. In this manner the process will border on a different sort of art which will combine theater and drawing. As a result of this inoovative technique, the participating public will react with far more affection towards the performance then if they were merely observing a typical lesson of drawing.
